Linking to a PDF or Word document
This function is not currently supported by the latest version of the authoring tool.
Please use the following workarounds:
Adding a PDF
To insert a PDF in to your intervention:
- Save your PDF file to the workspace - this will then appear on the left hand side of the authoring tool along with your pages.
- In the authoring tool, insert a text box.
- In the Textbox Properties area, copy and paste the following where it says Text:
<a href="filename.pdf" class="popup">Click here for...</a>
In the above line, replace filename with the name of your pdf file, and replace Click here for... with the text you would like on your page.
Adding a Word doc or other file
IMPORTANT: This is not supported by all browsers - older browsers and versions of Safari do not support the download function and may attempt to open the file in the browser. We recommend using PDFs.
To insert a Word Document or other file type:
- Make sure that your file is a generic, commonly used type. For example, save your Word documents as .doc rather than .docx type.
- Save your file to the workspace - this will then appear on the left hand side of the authoring tool along with your pages.
- In the authoring tool, insert a text box.
- In the Textbox Properties area, copy and paste the following where it says Text:
<a href="filename.doc" download="filename.doc">Download the file</a>
- In the above line, replace both filename.doc with the name of your file, and replace Download the file with the text you would like on your page.

- A box will appear with two radio buttons. Select Set as link.

- Write the name of the Word/PDF file into this text box exactly as it is saved in the workspace, e.g. instruction_booklet.pdf
- Click OK
Please note:
- If a Word document does not appear when you are testing in Preview mode, please upload it to the LifeGuide Community Website to check that it will show.
- The end-user will need to have Adobe reader (or a similar program) or Microsoft Word installed on their computer in order to read these documents.
- You may want to insert a link to the Adobe website so end-users can download Adobe reader for free if they do not already have it installed on their computer.
