Created page with "'''This function is not currently supported by the latest version of the authoring tool.''' Please use the following workarounds: ==Adding a PDF== To insert a PDF in to you..."

New page

'''This function is not currently supported by the latest version of the authoring tool.'''

Please use the following workarounds:

==Adding a PDF==

To insert a PDF in to your intervention:

# Save your PDF file to the workspace - this will then appear on the left hand side of the authoring tool along with your pages.
# In the authoring tool, insert a text box.
# In the '''Textbox Properties''' area, copy and paste the following where it says '''Text''':
#:
Click here for...

In the above line, replace '''filename''' with the name of your pdf file, and replace '''Click here for...''' with the text you would like on your page.

==Adding a Word doc or other file==

'''IMPORTANT:''' This is not supported by all browsers - older browsers and versions of Safari do not support the download function and may attempt to open the file in the browser. We recommend using PDFs.

To insert a Word Document or other file type:
# Make sure that your file is a generic, commonly used type. For example, save your Word documents as '''.doc''' rather than '''.docx''' type.
# Save your file to the workspace - this will then appear on the left hand side of the authoring tool along with your pages.
# In the authoring tool, insert a text box.
# In the '''Textbox Properties''' area, copy and paste the following where it says '''Text''':
#:
Download the file

#In the above line, replace both '''filename.doc''' with the name of your file, and replace '''Download the file''' with the text you would like on your page.

==Older Versions of the Authoring Tool==

'''The following instructions can only be used with older versions of the Authoring Tool. Please use the updated instructions above.'''

To link to a Word or PDF file from one of your pages in '''previous versions''' of the authoring tool, follow these steps:

* Save your Word/PDF file to the workspace - this will then appear on the left hand side of the authoring tool along with your pages.
* Enter the text you want to convert to a link, e.g. 'Click here to see a PDF version of these instructions'. This can be done in a normal text box.
* Highlight this text in the '''textbox Properties''' tool bar on the right hand side of the authoring tool.
* Click '''Set Selected Text As...'''
* A box will appear with two radio buttons. Select '''Set as link'''.
* A text box will appear with instructions '''Please enter a link beginning with...'''
* Write the name of the Word/PDF file into this text box exactly as it is saved in the workspace, e.g. instruction_booklet.pdf
* Click '''OK'''

'''Please note:'''

* If a Word document does not appear when you are testing in Preview mode, please upload it to the LifeGuide Community Website to check that it will show.
* The end-user will need to have Adobe reader (or a similar program) or Microsoft Word installed on their computer in order to read these documents.
* You may want to insert a link to the Adobe website so end-users can download Adobe reader for free if they do not already have it installed on their computer.
